Each class has one classroom teacher and up to 40 students. Turkish schools do not have classroom assistants. The students showed great respect for their teachers, their stationery (which they have to buy themselves) and their teaching materials. Each lesson is for 40 minutes.

The visitors were taken into the classroom where “how democracy works” was being taught. In the Maths class, the teacher was using the topic of “elections” to explain the working out of percentages and drawing pie charts.

The visiting students had an opportunity to play football and a game of chess in the playground. They made a number of friends and enjoyed the game of football which was watched by number of Turkish students.
